Hapai Tote PDF Pattern

$ 6.95

This is a nice basic pattern for beginners or even advanced bag makers. I have two sizes. The full size Hapai (beach bag size) and the Mini (handbag size)

Embellish and alter the Hapai to your heart’s desire. The large open panel gives plenty of space for applique, embroidery, or anything you’d like to create.

Hapai Details

  • Finished size 15" tall x 19" wide and 5" deep
  • 1 outside pocket
  • 2 inside pockets
  • Zipper closure across the top

Mini Hapai Details

  • Finished size 11" tall by 15" wide 3" deep
  • 1 outside pocket
  • 2 inside pockets
  • Zipper closure across the top

Materials

Main Fabric

  • ¾ Yard

I like to use canvas or cork fabric. Any mid to heavy weight material will work. If you use a lighter weight fabric like quilting cotton, use fusible fleece to add some body.

Accent & Base

  • Quarter (16”x20”)

This should be a similar or heavier weight fabric than your main fabric. Ideal for cork, vinyl, or leather.

Lining

  • ¾ Yard

I use a mid-weight duck canvas. If you use a lighter weight cotton fabric, use something like Pellon SF101 to add body.

Notions

  • 20” Zipper (17” for the mini)
  • 48” of 1” wide 100% cotton webbing
  • Zipper end (optional)

Special Thanks to all my wonderful testers!

I have been making and selling Hapai totes for many many years now. Without your help I never would have been able to make a coherent pattern that others can follow!
