The cone shape of the mask accommodates a wide range of face sizes and shapes. The cone shape also keeps the fabric away from your nose and mouth. I personally think it's more comfortable and easier to breathe in.
There is also a pocket for a flexible wire to go across the bridge of the nose. This helps to ensure a tighter fit.
